Esther Kim, MD - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery | Chief of Surgery, UCSF Transgender Care

Dr. Kim is board-certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. She specializes in cosmetic and complex reconstructive plastic surgery. A native of California and a graduate of UC Berkeley and UC Davis School of Medicine, she completed general surgery training at UNMC then plastic surgery at the Mayo Clinic. Thereafter she completed a microsurgery fellowship at UCSF, and then joined as faculty. Dr. Kim is part of a multidisciplinary transgender surgery program at SFGH and UCSF. She provides F-to-M and M-to-F transgender chest surgery. She is actively involved in future expansion these programs to include phalloplasty, metoidioplasty, vaginoplasty, and facial feminization surgery. She has an active research program looking at clinical outcomes of transgender sex reassignment surgery, and its impact on quality of life and improving gender dysphoria and behavioral health.
