Primary Care

What is primary care?

Primary care includes general preventive care such as cancer screenings and blood pressure checks, as well as management of general medical conditions, prescribing of anti-depressants when appropriate, and referrals for specialty care. Services include HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In the UCSF Gender Affirming Health Program, primary care is provided by Dr. Maddie Deutsch, MD, MPH Medical Director for the UCSF Gender Affirming Health Program, and internationally recognized expert in gender affirming medical care, and Dr. Steven "Stef" Nguyen, MD (they/them), a UCSF Assistant Clinical Professor of Family & Community Medicine with special training in gender affirming health care.

Schedule an appointment to establish primary care with Dr. Deutsch or Dr. Nguyen.
